Lawrence L. Witzel

Lawrence Lee Witzel was born in Wann, Oklahoma on a Sunday, October 24, 1940 to parents Leo Emery and Mary Christian (Harris) Witzel. He left our world on Friday, June 20, 2025 at the age of 84. Lawrence grew up in Wann, Oklahoma and graduated high school before entering the United States Army. He was a true patriot serving his country from 1962 until 1980. Lawrence was stationed in different places all around the country, including Vietnam. He was a very brave man, indeed. While there, he received numerous awards! National Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam campaign Medal; Army Commendation Medal; 2 – Overseas Service Bars; Good Conduct Medal (4th award); Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm; Expert Badge (M116 Rifle); Joint Service Commendation Medal to name a few! Lawrence ranked Sergeant First Class before retiring September 30, 1980. After his Army career, He worked for the United States Post Office where he gained a second retirement. Lawrence met a sweet young lady, Julia Kay Shoaf. Smitten by her, he took her to be his wife. They married in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma May 31, 1986. Together they raised 4 children. He now has 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and his legacy continues to grow. Lawrence loved his family. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Lawrence found working crossword puzzles a challenge. He was fond of bowling and joined many bowling leagues. He loved to travel and often took his family with him to bowling tournaments and on business trips, whenever he could. He was good with electronics and worked on and repaired televisions for his friends – He called it his “TV Ministry”.
