Jack R. Hayhurst 1929-1992

Jackie Ray Hayhurst was born December 19, 1929 in Booneville, Arkansas the son of Frank and Ethel (Largent) Hayhurst. When he was 10 years old, he came with his parents to Oklahoma near Porum. He attended Woodall Schools and graduated from Warner High School with the class of 1947. HE attended Connors State College and graduated from Northeastern State College. He taught school, grades 1 through 8 and coached the girls’ basketball team. He married Wanda Faye Willeford on July 6, 1953. He served as Associate Pastor of the Capital Hill Assembly of God Church in Tulsa from 1956 through 1959. He was Oklahoma District Christ Ambassador President and traveled as an evangelist before accepting the pastorate of the Jenks Assembly of God Church from 1959 through 1963. He attended and graduated from the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science with the class of 1965. He began his career as a Funeral Director in Henryetta, September 1965. In early 1966 he purchased the Wood Funeral Home in Henryetta. Along with his family he operated the funeral home from 1966 through 1982. Wanda Faye Hayhurst preceded him in death February 2, 1980. He married Theresa Lambert on November 27, 1981. Together they, along with Jack W. and Pam Hayhurst, purchased the Marlin Funeral Home April 1, 1984.

Jack was a member of the Broken Arrow Assembly of God Church. He was on the greeting committee, choir member, and served in several other areas of church ministry. He organized the Full Gospel Business Men’s Chapter of Henryetta and held all offices in that chapter. He became active in the Broken Arrow Full Gospel Chapter and served in various offices. While living in Henryetta he was a President of the Lions Club, was involved in civic and community affairs, including the board of the Henryetta Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the First Assembly of God Church of Henryetta from 1965 through 1982. He received his Ordination from the International Faith Fellowship on October 3, 1953.

Jimmy Marlin 1900-1995

James “Jimmy” Marlin of Broken Arrow passed away Wednesday, May 17, 1995 at the age of 95. Jimmy was born January 24, 1900 in Izard County, Arkansas to David and Alice (Jennings) Marlin. He was a 1918 graduate of Checotah High School. He started his career in the funeral industry at Powell Funeral Home in Checotah. In 1932 he moved to Broken Arrow. In 1963 he bought the old Barth Hardware and Funeral Home from Joe Neese and changed its name to Marlin Funeral Home. He owned and operated Marlin Funeral Home until 1984 when he retired. He was a member of Broken Arrow Masonic Lodge #243 for over 50 years. He also held memberships at the Akdar Shrine Temple of Tulsa, Tulsa Consistory of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, and the Oklahoma State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors.

            Wanda Sue Carter was born in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma on Sunday, March 19, 1944, the daughter of Clarence Robert and Madge May (Medlock) Edwards.  She died on Saturday, July 6, 2019 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  She was 75 years of age.

            Sue graduated from Broken Arrow High School in 1962.  She married Benjamin Boyd Carter in Broken Arrow on May 14, 1966.  For 38 years, she worked as receptionist for Dr. Robert Mackey’s office.  During her time at Dr. Mackey’s office, she helped raise many generations of families.  For the last several years, Sue has worked as receptionist for Hayhurst Funeral Home and embraced everyone with whom she worked as family.  Sue absolutely loved people.  She knew nearly everyone in town, who their parents were, and what house they grew up in.  She often shared pearls of wisdom from her extensive breadth of expertise, including the ideal location to plant a hydrangea, how to cure diaper rash, recipes for delicious homemade meals, and where to find the best deal on strawberries.  Sue loved to cook and bake, helping serve meals at her church for funerals, holidays and celebrations. She organized all the committees and meal planning.  She was never too busy to help in any way she could.  She was full of the love of Jesus and exuded joy.  She served faithfully as a member of Hope Church, a Ministry of God of Prophecy.
