Robert "Bob" Lee Plumlee

Robert Lee Plumlee was born on July 29th 1944, in a rule community just East of Locus Grove with a little help from his grandmother who assisted with the delivery! Bob Grew up on a family farm just South of Rose Oklahoma and attended Smith Chapel Country School where he completed the eighth grade. When bob was thirteen years old, he made a big life adjustment and moved in with his grandmother in Pryor; Living in the city was a big change for Bob. However, Bobs and his grandmother were very close and loved one another very much. Both because his grandmother had nursed him back to health as a child and because Bob helped her to hold the heavy grief of losing her son in the Korean war. Their love for one another helped them make it through tough times. Spending time together helped keep the emptiness away When Bob was fourteen years old his grandmother bought him his first guitar so they could spend their evenings together singing old gospel songs and enjoying one another’s company. The love of music he seemed to inherit from his grandmother would become a pivotal part of Bobs life. Bob started attending a Baptist Church not far from home and enjoyed being part of their thriving youth program. Attending this youth group changed life in a very special way, he met his sweetheart and future wife Lynne; they were both only fourteen at the time! After Highschool Bob enlisted i9n the air force and was stationed in Germany for a three-year tour where he worked on the flight line and crewed the F-150 Bomber as part of the 36th TAC Fighter Wing. During his tour in Germany Bob and some of his music-minded friends put together five-piece rock and roll band. They notably enjoyed playing music in Luxemburg and toured around doing local shows in Germany in their free time. After returning home from deployment Bob married his childhood sweetheart Lynne on July eighth 1966 at the age of 22 and together, they moved to Tulsa. There Bob attended college in the evenings and kicked off his 32-year career with AMOCO Oil. Bob worked diligently there until taking early retirement at the age of 54. In his 70’s and 80’s Bobs love of music once again took center stage collimating in the creation of a blue grass band. Bob and the band enjoyed playing at churches, nursing homes and other special events. Bob took a short break before also becoming part of the Cherokee Jamboree as one of the special musicians featured on the show for six years. Then in April, 2013 he co-founded The Friday Night Opry with close friends, Gene Partridge and Darlene Hart and the show is still running today. Bob will be remembered by his friends and loved ones by the tremendous way he loved those around him. Bob loved providing time and space to others, listening to their stories and helping them to see the bright side of really hard situations. Bob really loved all of his friends and family, but it is no secret that Bob seemed to love spending time with his grandchildren most of all. If Bob was here today, we think he would want to leave you with this bit of advice: “Love Jesus, Love your family and love your friends.”
