Peggy Lou Nelson

Peggy Lou (Fowler) Nelson was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on September 17, 1926 to Peter and Kathleen (Burton) Fowler. Peggy went home to be with the Lord Sunday, June 25, 2017 at the age of 90. Peggy was raised in Tulsa and graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1944 where she was Homecoming Queen. Her family founded Tulsa Refined Oil Company. On January 28, 1945 Peggy married James E. Nelson at Boston Avenue Methodist Church and in 1970 they moved to Broken Arrow where he owned Jim Nelson Ford, Inc. Their union was blessed with three children. Peggy was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She adored her family and loved spending time with them, especially the holidays. Thanksgiving, Christmas and the ‘Easter Egg Hunt’ at Mama’s were wonderful times that her children and grandchildren will always remember. Peggy volunteered as a candy striper for St. Francis Hospital working in the gift shop and in her free time enjoyed playing golf and bridge. She was a member of Christ Methodist Church in Tulsa, OK. Peggy is survived by her husband of 72 years, Jim Nelson, Broken Arrow, OK and their children, Kathy Nelson, Jimmy Nelson (Katie), Bobby Nelson (Sylvia), all of Tulsa, OK. Also, six grandchildren, Lisa Wakefield (Brent), Mandy Trotter, Rob Trotter (Cassandra), Danny Nelson, Elliot Nelson (Megan) and Johanna Nelson and eight great grandchildren, Beck, Heidi, and Simon Wakefield, Jed, Claire and Declan Nelson, Kelsey Trotter and Kiley Trotter. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Pete Fowler and sister, Patricia Fowler. She was loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Tulsa, OK 74106 or to the Salvation Army at PO Box 397, Tulsa, OK 74101 or to the American Lung Association at 1010 E. 8th Tulsa, OK 74120 Services honoring the Life of Peggy Lou Nelson will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 30, 2017 at Hayhurst Funeral Home Chapel, Broken Arrow, OK. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit the funeral home on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
