Nannie Lee

Nannie Virginia Lee was born on December 22, 1928, in Washington, D.C. to parents William Lee and Fannie Mae Lee. She passed away on December 4, 2024, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Early in her marriage to Calvin Aloysius Lee she entered Federal Civil Service, working at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington, DC, taking the train in from Baltimore where she and Calvin lived with his parents. Shortly after her first child, Laura, was born in 1947, she moved back to the DC area to be closer to family. Having also been previously trained at Georgetown University’s Nursing program, she was able to transition within the Federal system to working as a licensed practical nurse for the majority of her career starting at Boling AFB, then Andrews AFB, and finally at DC General Hospital. After raising her four daughters, she retired early and ramped up on travel. Nannie has been pretty much everywhere and loved to talk about her travels. Besides traveling, Nannie was an avid reader, loved to crochet, loved jazz, loved strings, was a fierce alto, and was an enthusiastic lover and supporter of the arts in general. Nannie is preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Aloysius Lee, her parents, William Sterling and Fannie Mae Lee, her siblings Paul Lee, William Lee, and baby Olivia Lee, and two daughters, Laura Loretta Shorter and Linda Louise Bennett, and a few of her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters Lois Laverne Lee and Cornelia Lorraine Lee, siblings: Pearl (Patricia) Ransom, Phyllis Whittaker, Phillip Lee, Lloyd Lee, Edith Lee, Sharon Lee, and Lisa Lee, grandchildren: Paul and James Darryl Marshall, Iliot Alexander, Timothy Ivory, Tiffany Brooks and Clifford Sanders, Noah Jorgenson, Zechariah and Nia Foster, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephew and cousins. Box 100, Chamberlain, SD 57325-0100 Nannie will be dearly missed by those who were blessed to have her as part of their lives.
