Mitch Wilkerson

Mitchell Blair Wilkerson was born on Wednesday, November 30, 1988 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the son of Steve and Karen Wilkerson. Tragically, we lost Mitch on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa at the age of 35. Mitch was talented, smart, handsome, and kind. So many loved him so much. He was a 2007 graduate of Broken Arrow High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from OSU in 2013. He had a wonderful jazz /rock band Captain Comfy where he wrote and played guitar. He could also sing and play the piano. He was an excellent golfer, too. Mitch lost his mother, Karen, to a brain aneurysm when he was 17. That next season, he was the Captain of the Broken Arrow soccer team. He was good at everything but embarrassed to be in the spotlight. He was always asked to perform from a young age but always saw it as showing off. Finally, he figured life was too short worrying about what others wanted, and decided to live fully for himself. Mitchell didn’t take direction well, nor did he want or need it, he was very stubborn. He learned to ride a bike on his own, wanted to ski on his own, and liked to cruise around festivals by himself. It’s very unusual for any baby in a family who didn’t need help figuring life out, but that’s how Mitchell liked it. He knew what he wanted, and where he was going from a very early age. He was very mysterious and alluring. People gravitated towards him and wanted to be his best friend. He was the easiest person to get along with, he didn’t care about what you did or what you looked like. If you were a good person you were ok in his book. Mitchell had a contagious smile and laugh. He had it on full display as we watched the final round of the Masters on Sunday. We went outside, on a nice porch with rocking chairs. That day he was struggling physically and couldn’t find a comfortable position. The next morning he had a cardiac event and was unable to recover. He was a beautiful person whose light burned brighter than the vast majority, it was probably too bright and couldn’t keep up. He will always be missed and adored. Selfishly we woke up the day after he passed wishing he was still here with us, but we know he is no longer suffering mentally or physically, and for that, we can all be grateful. I believe he was greeted at the gates of heaven by his Mother. He is happy and healthy and spends his time jamming with the greats. Survivors include His Father, Steve Wilkerson of Broken Arrow, Brother, Clay Wilkerson of Tulsa, Cousins, Karlee Kirk Heppel, Miranda Cary, Nick Cary. and Brandy Harrison.
