Glynna Winfrey

Glynna Lee Winfrey passed peacefully to be with her Lord on September 8, 2023 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on November 9, 1941 in Enid, Oklahoma, the daughter of James Arthur Dixon and Wilda Lee McDowell Dixon. Glynna was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She reflected Christ in all that she did. Glynna graduated from Miami High School in Miami, Oklahoma and married her high school sweetheart, Gary F. Connely. He died unexpectedly in 1968. Later she married W.C. “Pert” Winfrey who had been a long-time family friend. They were a wonderful match and shared together in civic and church responsibilities until his passing in 2010. Glynna was a very educated woman. As her children got older, she received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Tulsa and then her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Oklahoma. She was a licensed social worker for Family and Children’s Services using her compassion and abilities to help families throughout the Tulsa area for years. She was even called upon to help families of the Oklahoma City bombing victims. She was a beloved minister in the Community of Christ Church and a founding member of the Broken Arrow congregation. She served in numerous capacities including Sunday School teacher, organist/pianist, pastor and in later years as an Evangelist. In her spare time Glynna enjoyed the arts, traveling with friends, morning coffee with her Panera group, and gardening which she had done in the same home that she had lived in since 1966. She loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed attending her great grandchildren’s activities. Her deep abiding love for God was daily reflected to everyone she encountered. She will be sadly missed by those who were blessed to know her.
