Deniece Adsit

Lorine Deniece Adsit was born in Pinson, Tennessee to parents William Clifton and Helen Josephine Baker on Saturday, February 7, 1953. On Monday, August 4, she passed peacefully in her home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma at the age of 72. She is loved and greatly missed. Deniece graduated high school in Boswell, OK. Much to the pride of her family, she continued her education by taking night classes at Tulsa Junior College and obtained an associate degree. Deniece was a whiz with numbers and made her career as an accountant. Not only was she good with numbers, but Deniece also had a way with words. Transitioning into a second career as a professional writer after her cancer diagnosis, she contributed monthly articles for Community Spirit Magazine and wrote both fiction and non-fiction books. She found her tribe in her local writer’s group and relished the time they spent together discussing and editing one another’s books. Deniece had an outgoing personality and loved to dance and teach dance, especially square dancing, line dancing and ballroom dancing. This is how she met the handsome Charles W. Adsit Jr., endearingly known as “Charlie”. Deniece married Charlie in Eureka Springs, Arkansas on May 24, 1996. Deniece and Charlie continued dancing together, even teaching square dance lessons as a couple. Of all her monikers, her favorite was always “granny.” She loved being a grandmother more than anything in the world and spent as much time as possible finding fun ways to spend time with her grandchildren. Traveling and photography were among other things Deniece greatly enjoyed, and she combined these two passions to make many good memories. She visited family in Oklahoma and Tennessee whenever possible, and took many vacations with Charlie to Eureka Springs, Arkansas. She was also able to take several trips to visit her daughter and son-in-law in Europe, Washington D.C., Ohio, and Nevada. She stayed involved with charitable causes and church activities, whether it was sending care packages to deployed troops, filling shoeboxes for overseas ministries, or mentoring 3rd grade students through the Junior Achievement program. She had a special gift of being able to inspire others through her words and actions.
