Violet "Vi" Rothrock

Violet “Vi” Rothrock, of Tulsa, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2020 at the age of 92. A graveside service honoring her life will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 22 at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit Violet at the funeral home Tuesday, July 21 from 12:00 PM till 8:00 PM. Violet was born Monday, July 16, 1928 in Pryor, OK to Julius Arthur and Sally Ann (Skidmore) Howard. On April 17, 1944, Violet married Curtis Rothrock in Tulsa, OK and their union was blessed with 4 children. Son Bill and daughters Linda, Wanda and Barbara. Vi spent her life on an acreage in south Tulsa that her grandfather and grandmother bought in 1904 and farmed. Vi had three brothers and two sisters and in 1936, at the age of 8, Vi’s two sisters were killed in a fiery crash west of El Reno on route 66. Vi was the middle sister and this accident changed her life forever. Another life changing tragedy occurred when Vi was only 13 and her father was killed in a traffic accident while on his tractor. Vi married the love of her life, William Curtis Rothrock, on April 17, 1944. They had 4 children; Daughters Linda, Barbara, Wanda and son Bill. Vi was also blessed with 16 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Vi’s mother lived with the family and helped care for the children so that Vi could work. She spent her early years working at Rockwell calibrating parking meters. In 1964 she graduated from beauty school and became a beautician. She loved to visit with her customers and prided herself on giving the best shampoos around. Vi’s beauty shop was well known in the community and she continued to do a few of her regulars until she turned 90. She liked to travel and especially enjoyed the Colorado mountains.
