Thomas "Tom" L. Starr

A celebration of the life of Thomas “Tom” L. Starr will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 21, 2016 at South Tulsa Baptist Church. Burial will follow the service and Tom will be laid to rest with military honors at Floral Haven Cemetery under the direction of Hayhurst Funeral Home. Tom passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at the age of 67. Tom was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Sunday, January 9, 1949 to Edmund W. and Mildred (Taylor) Starr. Tom was reared alongside his brothers and sister in Albuquerque where he graduated from high school. Upon graduation, Tom enlisted in the United States Air Force and became a jet mechanic. On October 17, 1970 Tom married Josephine Maria Morfin Martinez in an Albuquerque wedding ceremony. Their union endured just one day shy of 46 years and was blessed with four children. Tom was a wonderful husband and father. He especially adored his grandchildren. He loved his family and spending time with them was his greatest joy. Tom was a friendly and sociable person. He loved people and just enjoyed visiting. Law Enforcement had always been a passion and he worked for many years as a Reserves Deputy for the Sherriff’s Department in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Tom was a Deacon in the past and loved being a part of the choir. He was also a Steven Minister and his church family had a special place in his heart. In his free time, Tom enjoyed antiques and anything to do with history, especially American history. Memorials may be made to South Tulsa Baptist Church, 10310 S. Sheridan Rd., Tulsa, OK 74133. Tom was survived by, Wife, Josie Starr, Broken Arrow, OK Children, Sophia Wadsworth and husband Justin, Sapulpa Sean Starr, Coweta, OK Maria Starr, Tulsa, OK Dominic Starr, Tulsa, OK Grandchildren, Amber, Meagan, Brooklyn, Jonathan, Aleah, Isabella, Tristen, Emma and Ryder Great Grandchildren, Panterra, Dallas, Leonardo Brothers, Buddy Starr and wife Annie, Edgewood, NM Rick Starr, Farmington, NM Several nieces, nephews and cousins Tom was preceded in death by his parents, sister Janice Spangler, brother Cleveland Starr, father-in-law Porfirio Martinez and mother-in-law and step-father-in-law Linda and Blas Garcia.
