Rena Rucker

Services honoring the life of Rena Mae Rucker will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Hayhurst Funeral Home. Rena was born on December 21, 1927 in Standing Rock, Oklahoma to Mount and Bunt (Carlile) Cookson. Rena passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2017 at the age of 90, surrounded by her loving family. Rena graduated from high school in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She married Jack Rucker and their union was blessed with three children. A member of the Cherokee Nation, Rena was the ultimate matriarch of her family. She adored her family and loved spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. Rena enjoyed playing with her grandchildren in the creek and pastures surrounding her farm, and cooking them their favorite foods. Rena was owner and operator of Jincy’s Kitchen in Qualls, Oklahoma for many years and will be remembered by many in Cherokee County for her incredible pies, biscuits and gravy, and fried chicken. Rena enjoyed watching horse races, bird watching and caring for her cattle, horses and border collies. She liked to go nearby lakes and rivers to fish with her friends and family. She also had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening, growing flowers and vegetables. Rena’s gift was her kindheartedness; she could get away with saying what others could not. More than anything, Rena cared deeply about the wellbeing of her friends and family. Rena was loved and respected by her community because she let anyone into her ever-growing family, and her stubborn yet kind nature brought countless smiles to those lucky enough to know her. Rena is survived by, Children, Cyndi Jackson and husband Vann, Broken Arrow, OK Debbie Rucker, Qualls, Oklahoma Daughter-in-law, Jan Rucker, Tahlequah, OK Grandchildren, Rebecca Guzman and husband Jesus, Broken Arrow, OK Rendy Mattler and husband Robert, Chewy, OK Jacob Ballard, Tahlequah, OK Haleigh Wisotsky and husband Emerson, Jenks, OK Shelby Jackson, Oakland, CA Great Grandchildren, Aubrey Edwards, Broken Arrow, OK Jincy Mattler, Chewy, OK Rena was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack and beloved son Doc Rucker.
