Phyllis Marie Matlock

Phyllis Matlock (1938–2024) Phyllis Marie Matlock of Tulsa, Oklahoma went peacefully and rejoicefully to the Lord on May 24, 2024, at the age of 85. A ceremony to celebrate Phyllis’ life and her joining Jesus in Heaven will be held Tuesday, June 4 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church Jenks. 11701 S. Elm Street, Jenks, Oklahoma 74037. She was a loving and caring person whose main concern was the salvation and welfare of her family, friends, and everyone she met. She was a righteous woman, whose love and faith for the Lord was her passion. Phyllis was born on July 13, 1938, to Marion and Irene Daugherty in Vinita, Oklahoma. Her parents gave her love and a place to call home. She is preceded in death by her husband John Matlock, parents Marion and Irene Daugherty, brother Bill Daugherty, sister Maxine Davidson, brother-in-law Cliff Eldridge, brother in-law Wayne Felts and son Randy Matlock. Phyllis is survived by her sister Barbara Eldridge, sister Freda Daugherty, sister-in-law Bette Daugherty, sister-in-law April Felts, brother-in-law Phil Davidson, son Rick Haney and wife Angela Haney, daughter Tina Adamson and husband Joe Adamson, daughter Michelle Jennings and husband Dewayne Jennings, grandchildren Kassie Adamson and Frede “Freddy” Arroyo, Nate and Sarah Haney, Brett and Willa Adamson, Garrett Haney, Kaitlin and Daniel Allen, and Nolan Jones. Great-grandchildren Evalynn Haney, Noah Haney, Emma Allen, and Avaree Allen. Many cousins, nephews, and nieces. Phyllis attended Vinita High School and was a proud member of the marching band, cheerleader squad, Trade & Industrial Club, FHA, Student Council, Glee Club, Dramatics Club, FTA, and Pep Club. She was the Trade & Industrial District and Club Sweetheart, and an Honor Student. Phyllis worked at Seismograph Service Corporation in Tulsa, Mayflower and United Van Lines in Broken Arrow. She was a member of the First Baptist Church Jenks, and past member of Newspring Family Church, Red Fork Church of God, and Vinita Church of God. Phyllis enjoyed her family and taking trips to see the fall leaves and sandy beaches. Her only fear was heights, so airplane trips and tall bridges were out of the question. Phyllis will always be remembered for her smile, laughter, and the way that she loved everyone. We will miss the smell of her fresh baked dinner rolls and cinnamon rolls. We will always imagine hearing her say “Have a blessed day” one more time. We couldn’t have asked for a better sibling, parent, grandparent, great grandparent, aunt, friend, and we will miss her every day. Memories of Phyllis will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her In lieu of flowers, Phyllis asked that you give an offering to your local church. She also expressed that it would be wonderful if everyone wore something pink to her celebration of life.
