Gloria Kay Brooks passed away May 22, 2021, after a long courageous battle with Ovarian cancer. She was 68 years old. Kay was born at home, in a spot on the road called Iron Post, a small community in Locust Grove, Oklahoma, on January 23, 1953, to the late Arch and Verda Ingram. She was one of seven children. Miss Kay, or Mimi to her grandsons, was known for her wonderful cooking, warm personality, and love of talking on the phone. She was a life-long accomplished seamstress and enjoyed crocheting and knitting. Most currently, she was part of a church sewing ministry that made clothes and quilts for children in Haiti, and she knitted caps for babies in the hospital. She was the loving wife of David. She enjoyed traveling with him and his appreciation for her cooking. He always says that he has eaten everywhere, but she is the best! She was a great mother to her only child, Daniel. She always loved to talk about the Word with him and loved to hear him preach! Her grandsons remember her as being a wonderful companion when they were children, always excited to paint, bake cookies, ride bikes, or play whatever game they wanted to play. Her grandsons were her greatest treasure, and no matter what they did right or wrong, she would think it was cute. Delbert used to say, “‘They could burn down the house, and Kay would think it was funny.” She completely loved them, and they completely loved her. Kay had the heart of an entrepreneur; she was always thinking of a business idea. She was a licensed reflexologist and had an essential oil business. Kay was a friend to many, and everyone loved her. Kay had the gift of making friends but also keeping life-long friends. Her many friends have been a blessing to her during this difficult journey, and she loved every one of them. Kay is survived by husband, David Louis Brooks, son, Daniel Louis Brooks (Charmin), grandsons, Dalton Louis Brooks (Piper), and Delbert Logan Brooks, her siblings, Ray Ingram (Beverly), Glenda Taylor (Jerry), Barbara Lamb (Donnie), Ronnie Ingram (Sherilyn), Ivan Ingram (Terri), as well as her many nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents, Arch and Verda(Sue) Ingram, infant sister, Ruby Dean, and father-in-law, Delbert W. Brooks. It would be wrong to say that Kay lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she kept the faith, believing she should be healed. She fought with scripture and prayer. Through her, we know what resilience, perseverance, and faith truly look like. Just because she is no longer here, it doesn’t mean she lost her fight. She is healed. She is whole.
