Janet K Peterson

A funeral service for Janet K. Peterson will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 5, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater, Oklahoma under the direction of Hayhurst Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery. Janet passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2016. She was 90. Janet was born in Kansas on February 23, 1925 to Alvin Theodore and Myrtle (Watson) Jones. She graduated from high school in Caney, Kansas before going on to attend Kansas State University. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics and was a substitute teacher at Stillwater High School. On August 17, 1947 Janet married Duane Peterson in a Caney, Kansas wedding ceremony. Their union was gifted with two sons, Russell and Ron. She was a wonderful wife and mother who adored her family. When grandchildren and great grandchildren came along, Janet cherished her grandchildren and loved to spend time with them. Janet enjoyed entertaining and would often have friends over for a game of Bridge. She was very active in the community. She served as a National Officer of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and served as Chapter Advisor for the local chapter at Oklahoma State University for 30 years. Janet was also involved in P.E.O. Women’s Organization. She was also a devoted member to the First Presbyterian Church of Stillwater. She was an accomplished artist whose art was enjoyed by all. She also supported her husband’s activities at the OSU Veterinary College and served on the Auxiliary at the Vet School.
