Ivy Lynn (Bailey) Speer was born on Sunday, June 14, 1936 in Houston, Texas the daughter of Ernest Matthew Bailey and Mary Katherine (Denson) Bailey. She passed from this life at her home in Bristow, Oklahoma on Thursday, October 26, 2023. She was 87 years old. Ivy married Billy Speer on August 2, 1967 in Claremore, Oklahoma. Ivy worked at Broken Arrow schools, first in the cafeteria at the high school then at Arrowhead Elementary before transferring to a position as custodian. She worked at Wolf Creek Elementary for many years and it was the cleanest school in BAPS! She was dearly loved by staff and teachers there as she embraced the school and students giving special attention to detail and loving on the children -who returned her love. When she wasn’t working at the school, she was using her talents to create beautiful and meticulous garments with her skills as a seamstress. She even made her daughter, Dorcas’ wedding dress as well as all the bridesmaid dresses and flower girl dresses. Besides being a talented seamstress, Ivy loved crocheting and working in the yard. However, her favorite pastime was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored. Ivy was a long time member of Woodlake Assembly of God, where she was involved in teaching children in the Rainbows program alongside Billy. After moving to Bristow, OK, she and Billy attended Cornerstone A/G there when their health allowed them to. She will be greatly missed by those who were fortunate to know her.
