Geri Moss

Geri was born on January 23, 1939 in Jenks, Oklahoma in Tulsa County to James Brummett and Elsie Crowl Brummett. She was one of nine children. Geri grew up partially in Arkansas and partially in Oklahoma. Geri graduated from Kiefer High School. She married Louis Moss, Sr. in Jenks, Oklahoma on December 27, 1956 at the age of 17. Together Geri and Wayne had five children; Lewis Moss, Jr, Lanette “Lynne” Moss Bader, Shelby Moss Hamilton, Philip Moss and Jeremy Moss. Geri worked at Bartlett Memorial Hospital at first as a Pharmacy Technician. Secondly, she worked there as a Unit Secretary. While working there she decided to go to nursing school at Central Vo-Tech in Drumright, Oklahoma and got her license as an LPN. After graduating from nursing school, she went to work at Bartlett Memorial Hospital as an LPN. She was then hired by the Central Vocational Technical School in Sapulpa, Oklahoma to teach Allied Health Careers where she taught students to work as Nurses Aids, Lab Technicians, and many other health occupations. There are people out there today who are taking care of sick people because my mother taught them how to take care of them with excellence and with compassion. Geri was very loved by her students, many of whom continued to look her up and thank her for what she did for them and tell her what she meant to them. During the time that she was teaching, she took college courses and obtained her Bachelors in Education at OSU Stillwater. She worked at Central Vo-Tech until she retired. She sang beautiful alto harmony and sang with her husband in a group called the Gospel Keys that they formed. She sewed the matching jackets that they wore. Geri took care of her handicapped sister, Virginia, after her mother passed away in 1973 and watched over Virginia and made sure her needs were met and that she was taken care of until Virginia passed away in 2005. She always put others before herself. She was always the last one to sit down and the last to eat. She would never eat until she was sure everyone else had been served. Geri was a giver. One of her favorite sayings when she would give away something nice, was if you give away something you don’t want and are trying to get rid of, you are getting rid of your junk. BUT if you give away something you truly love and want because you love that person more and want them to have that thing, it then becomes a true gift of the heart. And she often indeed gave away gifts from her heart. Each one of us have been a recipient of those gifts. But her greatest gift to us all, was her unconditional love for us and her prayers for us throughout our lives. She attended Carbondale Assembly of God Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she and Wayne were very involved and served as greeters there for some time. Geri was preceded in death by her mother, Elsie Crowl Brummett in 1973, her father, James Brummett in 1958 and seven siblings, Louie A. Brummett 1944, Lucille Brummett Bryant 1962, James Brummett JR (Jim) 1970, Vernon Brummett 2001, Virginia Brummett 2005, Hershel Brummett 2014, Bill Brummett 2016 Geri is survived by her husband of 69 years, Louis Moss, Sr., and five children and their spouses, Lewis Moss, Jr. and Julie Carlson Moss, Lanette “Lynne” Bader and Eugene Bader, Shelby Jean Hamilton and Anthony Hamilton, Philip Moss and Nicole Lee Moss and Jeremy Moss. She is survived by nine grandchildren, Crystal Storm, Ryan Storm, Jerry Storm, Jr., Colton Bader, Andrew Hamilton, Nickolas Hamilton, Sarah Moss, Lauren Moss and Michael Moss. She is also survived by one brother, Clyde Brummett and his wife Doris Rongey Brummett as well as many nieces and nephews.
