Debra Ann Meredith

Debbie Ann Sawyer was born on February 10, 1959 in Garden City, Kansas and passed away to her eternal home in Heaven provided by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 8, 2016 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma at the age of 57. Debbie was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Marvin “Buz” Sawyer, and sister, Durita Sawyer. She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, David Meredith of Broken Arrow; devoted daughters Melissa Meredith of Broken Arrow and Kristina Fensler and husband David; grandchildren Jaxson and Averie Fensler of Ada; mother Katie Sawyer of Tulsa, brothers Ron Krupovich and wife Cathy of Ottawa, Ralph Sawyer and wife Sherri of Wentzville, MO, and Steve Sawyer and wife Cindy of Broken Arrow; sister Monica Carter and husband Jimmy of Broken Arrow; and numerous nieces and nephews. Debbie grew up in Tulsa and graduated from Nathan Hale High School in 1977. During her school years she played multiple positions in softball for church and recreational leagues, and enjoyed weekends on the lake waterskiing with her family and friends. She was known for her sweet demeanor and joy in living, and met the love of her life while working at The Baptist Bookstore. She went on to serve as a substitute teacher and a preschool music and motor skills teacher, but her most treasured role was that of wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. Debbie cherished making her house a home and caring for her husband and two daughters. She left an imprint of love, strength, hospitality, and passion on all who crossed the threshold of her heart and home. She enjoyed arts and crafts, spending time with her family, and ministering to women. Debbie was a believer in Jesus Christ. Known as a strong woman of valor, she loved and sacrificially served God with all her heart. She invested herself in leading women’s ministry at her church and disciplining and mentoring young women in everyday life. She was a mighty prayer warrior and used her gifts of encouragement and service faithfully and passionately until God called her home. She leaves behind a powerful testimony of trusting God in suffering and is cherished as a spiritual mother to many. Visitation will be Friday, June 10, 2016 from 6-8 pm at Hayhurst Funeral Home in Broken Arrow. A private graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa followed by a public celebration service at 11:00 am Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Skelly Drive Baptist Church in Tulsa with Dr. Michael Gabbert, Senior Pastor of Evergreen Baptist Church, Bixby officiating.
