Charles "Chuck" P Buland

Charles "Chuck" Paul Buland, 76, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, went home to be with his Lord on August 17, 2026. He lived a full and happy life, rooted in love, faith, and family, filled with hard work, good music, dancing, laughing, teams worth cheering for, and plenty of adventure. Chuck was born December 6, 1949, in Tulsa to Joseph Andrew Buland and Geraldine Joy (Brown) Buland. His family moved to Salem, Illinois, when he was six, where his love of the St. Louis Cardinals began. After relocating to Sapulpa when he was ten, he graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1968. In January 1973, he entered the United States Army and reported to Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He later received an honorable discharge. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Oklahoma, completing his studies while working full time. At OU, he was a member of Beta Theta Pi, a fraternity he loved. He was also a lifelong fan of Sooner football and went to games every at every opportunity. Chuck joined Merrill Lynch in late 1973 where he worked 48 years. He spent nearly five decades doing careful diligent work for his clients, earning the distinguished Certified Investment Management Analyst designation, and retiring as a vice president in 2021. Many of his closest friends started out as co-workers and clients. It was also where he met the love of his life, Marilyn. He married Marilyn Mitchell Davis on April 11, 1987, at First Baptist Church in Broken Arrow. He was crazy about her for the next 39 years. They adventured together: world travel to mountains, lakes, and oceans, punctuated with skiing, diving, hiking, and inordinate amounts of golf and exercise. Chuck was especially proud of running the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C., and holding the family record for the fastest Tulsa Run time (under 60 minutes!). He was a wonderful father. And he devoted himself to his grandchildren, frequently attending their games, meets, and recitals. He lived out his deep faith in Christ, cheerfully. For much of his adult life he was an active and faithful member at First Baptist Church in Broken Arrow. There he taught Sunday School classes, served on church committees, and chaperoned youth mission trips. Later he joined Asbury Church in Tulsa, where he was a member of the Christians for Life community. His most personally meaningful board work came through the Child Abuse Network and WatersEdge, formerly known as The Baptist Foundation of Oklahoma, where he sat on the investment committee. Chuck loved Jesus and his family, worked hard, served faithfully, enjoyed his many friends, and had a great deal of fun along the way. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Buland of Tulsa; his children and step-children, James (Rebecca) Buland of Bixby, Oklahoma, Matthew (Melinda) Davis of Missouri City, Texas, and Jessica (Brian) Highfill of Ridgway, Colorado; his grandchildren, Tyler, Austin, Zach, Rhys, Liam, Mason, and Marian; and his brother, Anthony Buland. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Nancy Wildey.
