B. Ray Still

Berresford “Ray” Still September 11, 1931 – February 14, 2020 B. Ray Still, the patriarch, spiritual anchor and the soul of our family, passed away peacefully at his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 88, fittingly on Valentine’s Day holding hands with his wife of 69 years, Del. Ray was born in Tulsa Oklahoma on September 11, 1931 to Willa Lou (Folds) and Berresford Loys Still. Ray was the youngest son of six children. At age 16 he met and at age 19 he married the love of his life Alma Del Stanley on October 5, 1950. In 1952 Ray was drafted into the Army to serve during the Korean war, where he and Del were stationed in Virginia and San Antonio, Texas. After two years of service, Ray and Del moved back to Tulsa, where sons Tim and Marc were born in 1956 and 1959 respectively. Ray was hired by Sinclair Oil Company in the accounting department, and went to school at the University of Tulsa at night and on weekends. It took nearly 8 years, but Ray earned his bachelors degree in Business Administration and Accounting from Tulsa in 1962. In 1967, Sinclair transferred Ray to their Denver office, where the boys were busy in school and where Tim would graduate. Ray, whose family included several pastors and ministers, became an elder in the Apostolic Faith Tabernacle in Denver, where he would become active in leading the church’s youth and music programs. Then in 1974, the Stills moved to Dallas, one more time with Sinclair, who soon was acquired by Atlantic Richfield Corporation (ARCO). With both of the boys in college, in 1977 Ray and Del moved back to Denver, as Ray loved the Colorado mountains, and Ray would retire from business administration office of ARCO in 1986 after more than 30 years. In 1989, Ray and Del moved to Beaver Lake in Northwest Arkansas, where Ray designed and built a wonderful retirement home overlooking the Lake, that they moved into in 1990. The Still’s would hangout around Beaver Lake in the house that Ray was so proud of for more than 14 years --- as many family members and friends from all across the South and Southwest would come to visit, relax and enjoy. During their tenure in Beaver Lake, the Stills were regular attendees at Northwest Arkansas Bible Church. In 2004, Ray and Del would once more move back to the Tulsa area, where it all began --- and they would remain there until Ray’s passing. Ray is survived by his wife of Del of 69 years, his sons Tim Still and Marc Still, daughter’s in law, Lilly Still, Karen Rogers Still, and grandsons Adam Still and Paul Still, and “granddaughters” Lauren Stanley and Morgan Stanley, plus his younger sister Lucille Still McNulty and his oldest brother, Jack Still who is 96 years young. He is preceded by his parents, Willa Lou and Berresford Still, brothers Louis Edward, Lloyd Marion, and sister Katherine. Ray Still was an amazingly devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and cousin to his many family members. Anchored in his faith, Ray was one of the kindest and most pleasant souls on earth. He loved his wife, his family, especially his grandsons, his many dear friends, and his God. He also loved his mile-high Denver Broncos and his beloved Oklahoma Sooners – Boomer! Ray Still was an extraordinary gentleman, always with a good word of encouragement, or a quick lesson of faith. He had a wonderful voice that lifted up many a hymn, and he loved to sing Christmas songs every year with son Marc. Ray had an elfin smile, a quick wit, and forever a twinkle in his eye that he used to lift our spirits and to always keep us smiling. He was a mentor, a teacher, a pastoral and father figure to many. We know where he is, as he’s with his God, but there is a sting to our loss, as we will only see the smile and twinkle of Ray Still in our memories --- until we meet again. Thank you God, for B.
