Virginia Dill

Services honoring the life of Virginia May Dill will be February 23, 2023 at Hayhurst Funeral Home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Park Grove Cemetery. Viewing will be Wednesday, February 22 from 5PM until 7PM at Hayhurst Funeral Home. Virginia May Ellis-Dill, the daughter of George Ellis and Edna Service-Ellis, born May 4, 1931 in Downey, California. She was one of three children. She had a brother, Art and a sister, Dorothy. She grew up in Downey, California, graduated high school, met and married the love of her life, John “Buddy” Dill on June 26, 1949. They were blessed with two sons, Alan and Gary and two daughters, Sandy and Cheri. Virginia was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. Virginia worked at Petrick Law Office as a secretary for a few years. Bookkeeper for John Dill Trucking her entire career and worked at General Telephone company as a service representative and administrator in the engineering department. She retired from GTE after over 20 years of service. Buddy and Virginia met on a blind date at the theater where she worked as an usher in the Downey area. They moved to Oklahoma shortly following their wedding. Virginia loved being on the water and at the beach which we don’t have a lot of in Oklahoma. Many years later she was able to substitute a swimming pool for the beach which she enjoyed immensely with her kids and grandkids. She loved going shopping with the girls and spending time with her family. She also loved sports, she played tennis in high school, softball on the church team, attended all BA High School football games and wrestling matches for many years, as well as any and all sports in which her children and grand children were participating. She wasn’t bashful when it came time to tell the kids what they needed to do to play better, especially from behind the backstop, inside the dugout and the sideline. She played church softball and was an avid bowler. She loved reading, watching movies…including many Hallmark movies. We all learned early on that you did not interrupt her when she was watching tennis especially Wimbledon, USA Open and the Olympics. She and Buddy were very active in First Baptist Church Broken Arrow from the time she arrived in Broken Arrow until the last few years. They took a short recess from FBC and became charter members of Clearview Baptist Church. Virginia loved the choir and was a member of both choirs of First Baptist and Clearview. She so enjoyed the choir trips with her friends. Oh the places they would go….. Israel Holy Lands, England, Scotland and others. She was very active in Vacation Bible School and was also a volunteer at St Francis South Hospital for over 20 years. At Prairie House, her apartment where she lived for the last four years, there were many on the staff that got to know and love her. She will be missed by all those that knew her and loved her. She is survived by: Sons: Alan Dill and Linda of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma Gary Dill and Christy of Coweta, Oklahoma Daughters: Sandy Davis of Edmond, Oklahoma Cheri Powell and Paul of Cushing, Oklahoma Grand children: 12 Great Grand Children: 31 Great Great Grand Children: 4 She was preceded in death by: Husband: Buddy Dill Parents: George and Edna Ellis Sister: Dorothy Rose Brother: Art Ellis
