Myra Keene Hale

Services have been scheduled for 2:00 PM, Monday, June 22, 2015 at Hayhurst Funeral Home Chapel in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Pastor Larry Varvel will officiate. Myra M. Hale was born on Friday, September 10, 1920 in Miami, Oklahoma, the daughter of Firman Francis and Nellie Marie (Brent) Newby. Myra died on Thursday, June 18, 2015 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Myra was a graduate of Central High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She attended TU for two years and graduated from OSU with a Degree in Education. Myra married Philip E. Keene on February 19, 1945 in Tulsa, OK. They had two children together and moved to Broken Arrow in 1955. Phil preceded her in death on June 16, 1963. She later married Gene Hale on December 7, 1973 in Miami, OK, Gene preceded her in death on February 19, 1979. Myra is a 60 year member of the First United Methodist Church in Broken Arrow, OK. She taught home economics and elementary education in Liberty Mounds, Bixby, Broken Arrow and Tulsa for over thirty years, until her retirement. Myra resided in her Broken Arrow home for 60 years. She was very active in her affiliations: Eastern Star, Tulsa Women’s Club, Red Hat, Daughters of the Nile, Alpha Delta Kappa, Ladies Oriental Shrine, and Ladies Without Nobles. Myra loved representing each and every group. She was an excellent role model, teaching how to reach out to others. She had a great passion for life, and always had somewhere to be and someone to see. She loved her family dearly. Every summer, without fail, Myra and her family returned to Farmington, MO “The Farm” to visit relatives. Another favorite place to spend her leisure time was her lake home near Fin and Feather. Since 1984, she went there religiously from spring until fall. She always loved to be there the last weekend of September for the large Arts and Crafts Festival, where she peddled bottled water to the shoppers passing by. Myra also entertained many of her ladies groups at her lake home. Memorials may be made to Akdar Shrine Transportation Fund, 2808 S. Sheridan Rd., Tulsa, OK 74133. Myra is survived her son, Tommy Keene and wife Keitha, Suffern, NY; daughter, Shirley Scott and husband Erwin, Edmond, OK; grandchildren, Glen and Barrie, Phil, Brandon, Jessica and John; great grandchildren, Ashley, Kasie, Jackson, Jolie; nephews, Roy and Clifford Reid; close friend, Jan Mitchell; other loving family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, sister Elizabeth Polson and nephew Johnny Reid.
