Kathryn Bondurant

Kathryn Lucille Baldwin Bondurant passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years William Thomas Bondurant, Jr.; her parents; her brothers, William H. Baldwin, Jr., Frank B. Baldwin; and her grandson, Wilson McCulloch Parkhouse. She is survived by her children, William Thomas Bondurant III, and his wife, Ruth, Carol Bondurant Rowland and her husband, Alan, Linda Bondurant Burgtorf and her husband, Bradford; her grandchildren; Kathryn Davis Harris and her husband, David; William Draper Green and his wife, Katie; Zachariah Bondurant Rowland, and his wife, Anastasia; and Rebekah Rowland Fries and her husband, Robert; great grandchildren, Bailey Baughan Harris, Joseph Harris, Jack Draper Green, Elliot Owen Green, Niko Rowland and Theo Rowland, and Tinsley Fries; great great granddaughter, Novaleigh Harris; and nieces and nephews, Kathleen Lee Foster and her husband, Rick, Judy Kenter and her husband, Mike, Greg Baldwin and his wife, Vicki, Kathleen Chichester and her husband, Dan, Susan Slaw, Ben Baldwin and his wife, Stephanie, Lee Baldwin, and Sydney Baldwin and his wife, Kathy. Kay was born in Farmville, Virginia on November 1, 1928, to William H. Baldwin and Cora Cox Baldwin. She was surrounded with love by her grandparents, parents, aunts, and uncles who embraced the Calvary cry “The South Will Rise Again.” Kay always laughed, remembering that as child she thought the South was still fighting the war between the States, as tales of the war were told over and over and over! As a student at Longwood College, Kays’ friend, Katie Bondurant introduced Kay to her cousin, a student at Hampden-Sydney College, Bill Bondurant. Bill was a Sigma Chi. Kay was an Alpha Sigma Tau. They married and after graduation, they moved to San Antonio where Bill became a 3rd generation Bondurant to lead the San Antonio Academy. Kay taught Art Appreciation for the San Antonio Academy while working on an Art degree. Visual arts and music were Kay’s passions. She studied art at Longwood College, Incarnate Word College, Our Lady of the Lake College, McNay School of Art, and a summer semester in England at Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge University. Kay was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Junior League, Battle of Flowers Association, Timely Topics Club, Monte Vista Garden Club, and the San Antonio Country Club. She loved traveling with Bill. They did the Grand Tour several times, Scandinavia, Russia, Greek Isles, Panama Canal, Alaska, Canada and Mexico. There will be a private family service. In lieu of flowers the family suggest a contribution be made to the San Antonio Academy, 117 E. French Place, San Antonio, Texas 78212, or a charity of your choice.
