David "Mike" Michael Duvall

David Michael "Mike" Duvall, born on October 21, 1946, in Greenville, South Carolina, passed away on October 8, 2023 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He was the beloved son of Gladys and Samuel Duvall. Preceding him in death were his mother, father, and brother, Sam. Mike's early years were spent in Greenville, where he excelled in football and baseball, both in school and summer leagues. In his free time, he enjoyed participating in school activities, being outdoors, water skiing, and being around his niece and nephew. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1965, renowned for his athletic prowess in baseball and football, particularly his skills as a pitcher and a halfback. His small stature was matched only by his fierce competitiveness. He led an American Legion baseball team to legendary status with his teammates and Coach Phillips. In his senior year, He was recognized as a GHS Top Citizen, and his classmates described Mike as cheerful, responsible, dependable, fun-loving, and all about The Hill. Mike's journey began at the University of Tennessee, where he attended on a baseball scholarship. It was here that he crossed paths with his future wife, Becky, who was a Vol Hostess at the time. They tied the knot on June 13, 1970, in Knoxville, Tennessee, and soon embarked on their life's journey together, settling in Greenville, South Carolina. Throughout his time in Greenville, Mike was an active and dedicated member of his community. He was involved with the Episcopal and United Methodist churches, as well as the Hejaz Shriners, where he served on the Board of Directors. His commitment extended to various organizations, including his role as a parent and official for SAIL, the Pebble Creek Swim team, and the Greenville Swim Club. He was also an active member of the Men's Golf Association at Pebble Creek Country Club. Mike built a successful career in the furniture industry, working as a salesman for many years and even starting his own furniture business called Carolina East Furniture. Later, he was hired by Airgas, a company in the Midwest. In 1992, Mike relocated to Sapulpa, Oklahoma, to work for Airgas, with his family joining him in February 1993. They have called Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Indian Springs Neighborhood their home for the past 30 years. Mike is fondly remembered for his profound dedication and significant leadership for the Indian Springs Board of Governors. He was also actively involved in the Men’s Golf Association at Indian Springs. His contributions and influence within this community institution were celebrated and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Mike's career at Airgas Mid-South flourished, and he worked tirelessly and rose to the position of regional president before his retirement on October 1, 2007. During his retirement years, he relished spending time with friends and golfing buddies, traveling, playing golf, engaging in card games, tending to his yard and garden, and most importantly, cherishing moments with his family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and following Tennessee Athletics. Mike and Becky shared 53 wonderful years of marriage, a testament to their enduring love and commitment. He is survived by his wife, Becky Duvall; daughter, Michelle Grinsteiner, and husband Chad Grinsteiner, along with grandsons Caden and Kolby; daughter, Stephanie Broach and husband Michael Broach, along with granddaughter Naomi Lopez, grandson Sebastian Lopez, and great-granddaughter Elliott Lopez. Additionally, Mike is survived by his sister-in-law Dianne Duvall, nephew Sammy, and niece Camille Duvall. Mike's legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his memory will forever be cherished by his family and friends. He leaves behind a remarkable and enduring impact on the lives he touched. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Duvall home on October 21st from 1-6 pm, where friends are invited to drop by, share stories and memories, and cheer on the Vols, with everyone expected to wear orange.
